German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) officially announced its patronage for the prostep ivip Interoperability Initiative

BMWi grants CPO-Patronage

For realizing Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things (IoT) successful, fast and global, IT systems have to be interoperable. For this, the technological challenge is to establish interoperability, the political one is to establish trust into the simple application of the systems. An interoperability certification can facilitate this.

Under the patronage of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), within the next 12 months ProSTEP iViP Association will elaborate a program for interoperability certification. The basis of these work will be ProSTEP iViP’s Code of PLM Openness (CPO), especially the therein specified interoperability criteria.

“The German industry relies on the fact, that smart products and services can be offered and applied globally. With regard to this, interoperability is the key. A certification assures trust with regard to the broad application of information and communication technology (ICT), removes technological barriers and boosts the power of the German economy” states Sigmar Gabriel, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy. “With the Code of PLM Openness we create a means, where market forces so far failed. We are proud, that the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) now takes over the patronage for the CPO.” adds Dr. Oliver Riedel, prostep ivip’s Chair of the Board.
